Biology provides pupils with an understanding of themselves and the natural world in which they live.
The course covers 3 mandatory units ; Cell & Molecular Biology, Environmental Biology and a Biology Investigation. Physiology, Health & Exercise is studied as the optional unit.
Pupils are primarily assessed on 2 course objectives. Knowledge and understanding asseses the ability to recall and understand facts and principles. Problem Solving skills include; selecting, presenting and processing information, planning, designing and evaluating experimental procedure, drawing valid conclusions and providing explanations and making predictions and generalisations based on evidence.
The skills developed as a result of successful completion of the investigation unit include the ability to analyse and present relevant information through experimental observation or survey work and to write in a scientific manner.
